Tiverton Castle
The Gardens

The earliest mention of a garden in Devon was in the 1400`s - the Earl of Devon had an apple garden at Tiverton Castle.  Replanting and landscaping work has been carried out over the last few years and the beautiful walled gardens enhance the romantic ruins of the Castle.  The garden covers some three acres, and is mainly level, but with new steps leading down to the River Exe.

There are: a Spring bulb border with colourful and unusual bulbs;  the pergola planted with some rampant and some scented climbers;  a brightly coloured summer border round the house with some rare and unusual shrubs and bedding plants;  the working kitchen garden;  the orchard now has old varieties of fruit trees.  In the woodland down by the River mature trees and a small bog garden can be seen.
